Add control over size of the timecode display
The timecode display right now is way too small and difficult to see. I wish it were bigger and more visible. Either Inquirium can make it so, or give us controls over its appearance, font, color, etc.
32 votesThanks for writing in your request. We will consider either enlarging the current timeline text display, or allowing users to control the timeline font size.

add live statistics of transcription progress
I need to be motivated! 50 hours of audio to transcribe leaves me a bit overwhelmed. It would be great to have an optional window that shows things like my current # words transcribed per minute, my total # transcribed words and # minutes completed so far today, and other days this week (and the record to beat!), and a monthly progress chart. This should be really simple to implement, but could really make a difference in my work awareness and motivation.
9 votesThanks for writing in your request! We will consider adding in some live stats for a future update.

allow a shortcut that switches volume balance (one for right, one for left, one for middle)
This would help us tremendously in transcription of video where there are two audio channels and we want to catch what's happening in both

add styled text support
Add support for styles like bold and italic, along with custom font colors and varying fonts and font sizes.

add a spell checker
On OS X, we'd use the built-in spell checker. For Windows, we're looking at several options, and are currently leaning towards hunspell, an open-source project with support for several languages. The Open Office project also uses hunspell.

Batch update for file locations
Different users have the same file stored in different locations. Currently, we have to relocate each file one by one as we re-open transcripts. It would be so much easier to have a batch update function, or a default directory option that can be updated and affect all transcripts.

button to pause for n seconds, then skipback and continue playback
Simple: I'm transcribing the audio; the speaker then accelerates, so I press a customizable key and InqScribe pauses for 3 seconds (giving me the time to digit what I've lost), then automatically restart playback, only skipping back 1 second just to help me "realignining" with the next words.
1 voteThanks for writing in your request. We’ll consider adding a shortcut that acts on a customizable timer as you described.
In the meantime, you might be interested in a Skipback Toggle combination. In this setup, you can use one shortcut key to play, pause, and skipback in your media file. Read more about this option in our User Guide: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/keyboardshortcuts.html#actions

insert a cancel button in shortcuts/snippets window
Especially in the shortcuts window, if I modify a parameter of a shortcut, the change is immediately saved and it can't be undone. Having a Cancel button aside the Done button would be useful.
1 voteThanks for your feedback. We’ll look into adding a “Cancel” button for a future InqScribe update.

let me use InqScribe to control playback in the background
So I can type in Word or some other application, and use the foot pedal to control playback.

error box needs keyboard support and non cryptic alert messages (media not in expected folder error)
Blind users can't interact with media not found errors via the keyboard and these errors are in cryptic hexadecimal rather than English.

support separate sets of snippets/shortcuts
Many folks want to share snippets or shortcuts with each other. Come up with a way to save a collection of snippets as a file to share with others, and have a way to limit which snippets are active for any given file.
Of course, this feature could also allow you to create and store collections of snippets for your own use.
39 votesI’ve edited the description to specify “snippet collections” as a feature you can use for yourself, not just for sharing purposes. Thanks for the feedback!

allow saving full-res video image in document
Be able to create a document with slides inserted in text.
7 votesThanks for writing in the request. You can save images within InqScribe by clicking “File > Save Current Frame as JPEG…” or “File > Save Time Series as JPEGs…” However, you cannot currently save these images in a document with your transcript’s text. We will consider this export option for a future update.

allow a link in the transcript area to multiple media files
That way the same inqscribe file can point to different media files. This is useful if, for example, you wanted to show lots of examples of the same category which occur in different media files.

Spreadsheet type work area and Excel support
Instead of plain text area . Let us choose the number of colums visible.
Would be fare more useful and easily exporable for stuctural data instead of relying on TABs and returns that are not always visible.33 votesThanks for writing in the request! Naturally, having a spreadsheet work area would allow easy export to Excel, so I’ve added that to the description. We’ll consider spreadsheet support for a future InqScribe update. Add Flash support
It would be great to be able to transcribe .FLVs (Flash format), whether from a file or from a URL. Obviously, URL would be the most convenient.
57 votesFlash support is on our radar. We’re currently in the process of revamping our media support, which you can read about here: http://blogs.inquirium.net/inqscribe/2014/03/retiring-quicktime/

Save subtitle settings
It would be helpful if you could save and load your subtitled settings instead of having to re-input them every time. Especially great when subtitling hundreds of MOV's with the same width/height!

Open Language localization
Please give us the ability to translate the software. It can only benefit you.

Support for media in external device, like DV player
One of the things I really miss in Inqscribe is the possibility of transcribing straight from a DV tape. As a documentarist shooting in native langugages, I first have to go do a pre-translation in a text editor, and then bring a captured clip from Final Cut into Inqscribe and this will be translated again. Inqscribe would grow immensely as a program if it had the possibility of controling an external DV device via firewire (like a player, or camera in VTR mode) and using that as media.

allow for .m2t logging
many of us are working in HDV. Is there a way to log without doing a transfer to mpeg?
4 votesThanks for writing in the suggestion. We’re currently revamping InqScribe’s media engine, so we’ll keep this idea under consideration.
