  1. Add an optional AutoCorrect

Add an AutoCorrect feauture, similar to those in mobile devices and word processors. Since some users type shorthand or use codes in their transcript, an ability to turn off this feature is essential.

It would be great to have the following:
    - Automatically make every sentence start with a capital letter.
    - Include a system that recognizes frequently used words and names.

  2. Unpin video window from text window

You should be able to unpin the video window from the text window so you can place in a secondary window. I personally want to use your software for court presentation by clicking on the timecode and immediately playing back for the jury. Right now I have to note the time code then pull up the video in a separate player and cue to the correct time.

Thanks for the suggestion Andrew. I see how unpinning the video window would be really useful for presentation scenarios. We will consider this for a future update of InqScribe.

Your second suggestion about embedding subtitles within the playback window is actually covered in the following suggestion: http://support.inqscribe.com/forums/4206-general-feedback-for-inqscribe/suggestions/3057491-preview-subtitled-movies

Feel free to place your votes there! I’ve edited this part out of the description to keep these ideas separate.

  3. Batch export

Add the ability to export to a certain format several Inqscribe files at once. Exporting a whole card full of Inqscribe transcripts one by one takes FOREVER.

  4. New version for Final Cut X?

Some of us have not jumped ship from being FCP 7 users and are loving life with Final Cut X. Is there an upgrade in the pipelines for us?

  5. to have inqscribe to recognize tc on mp3 files

It will be nice if inqscribe could recognise ID3 TC in mp3 files embedded on the metadata. MP3 are smaller and have a fast download /upload time.

Thanks for writing in the suggestion. If the idea gets enough votes, we’ll consider adding support for MP3 timecode recognition!

  6. Save time series jpgs with transcript notes subtitles. Would be fantastic for student notes reviews

As above, export time series jpgs with transcript subtitles. It would be an incredible review technology for notes.

Thanks for the suggestion Alan. Although you can save a timecoded video as a series of JPEGs (by selecting “File > Save Time Series As JPEGs”), you cannot currently display your transcript as subtitles to these images. This is great idea, so we’ll consider adding it in a future InqScribe update.

  7. Do not resize media window when importing a new video file

"It would be nice to be able to import and not change my preferred sizing.
It would save a lot of resizing every time I import a file. I tend to log a lot of footage where I am handling over 100 files at a time and have to resize every one so I can access other things on my desktop at the same time." -Adrienne

  8. discontinuous timecode support

Add support for discontinuous timecode, when there are multiple items on one tape that show jumps in the visible timecode.

Thanks for writing in the request! Discontinuous timecodes are a tricky subject, which we try to address in the following article: http://support.inqscribe.com/knowledgebase/articles/18059-does-inqscribe-support-discontinuous-timecodes

With that said, we will look into solutions for discontinuous timecodes if there’s enough support behind it.

In the meantime, you can adjust the start time of a transcript or adjust a set of specified time codes. Details in our User Guide here: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/transcriptiontips.html#adjusting

  9. Make transcript change color every x seconds from previous timecode

Sometimes transcribers are requested to enter timecodes every, say, 20 seconds. InqScribe doesn't automatically insert timecodes in order to avoid situations where the timecodes gets inserted in a bad spot, like t[00:00:20.00]his.

A workaround is to have the transcript, or a part of the transcript change color to indicate the 20 second mark. Ideally, the would be a color animation (for example, gradually turning from green to yellow to red) so that you could plan your line break.

We’ll consider the feature for a future update. Make sure to cast your votes if you’re interested in this idea.

  11. Support using the play/pause, previous/next buttons on the Mac keyboard

Other media applications will use the built-in plause/pause and previous/next buttons that normally operate iTunes, but only when that application is in use. This would provide convenient one-key shortcuts for play/pause and skipback/forward.

Thanks for the suggestion Josh! We’re working now on some big changes to InqScribe, so we’ll keep your feedback in mind. We would like to add in media key support for Mac and PC.

  12. Allow for <--Comments--> in the transcript

Add the ability to type in info, like the name of the current speaker, or scene numbers in a way that will be ignored when you export the XML. For example, in HTML, <--you simply bracket the comment like this-->.

Great idea. We’ll consider a comment feature for a future update. Thanks for the suggestion!

  13. Overlapping Timecode search

Having overlapping timecodes in the transcript will trigger an error when opening the XML in Final Cut Pro. Then you have to go back and painstakingly look for the error. Have InqScribe highlight the timecode if the next timecode you add isn't at least 1 frame later.

This is a great idea. We realize scanning every timecode can be a painstaking process. We will consider adding a “highlight overlapping timecode” feature in a future update.

  14. Allow for "Save Current Frame as JPEG" shortcut

Allow users to assign a shortcut to the "Save Current Frame as JPEG" feature.

  15. add a snippets counter, so you can see how many lines a characters has.

If you translate a script with different characters, you always want to know have many lines a certain actors has for planing your studio time. so it would be great if you could add a "snippets line counter" under the "Transcript" menu, and also be able to choose the line count of different snippets.

Thanks for writing in the request! I see how it would be useful for studio time management. We’ll keep this idea under review. If there’s enough support for the feature we will consider adding it in a future update.

Thanks for writing in the suggestion. InqScribe does have a “find” box (select “Edit > Find”), but, you’re right, it does not stay present while interacting with the transcript. We’ll look into changing this for a future update.

  17. add the ability to export transparency/ opacity scale.

add the ability to export onto a translucent background. Maybe have the transparent with a transparency/ opacity scale.

    Hi Junie,

Thanks for your suggestion. InqScribe currently offers a “Transparent” background option for subtitle display (see the Save Subtitled QuickTime Movie Menu settings: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/subtitling.html#export). However, we do not currently offer a translucent/opaque background option, so we will place your suggestion under consideration for a future update of InqScribe.

    Thanks again!

  18. Add password protection to .inq files

We use this program for our research with human subjects. For security sake, add a password protection on files. Right now, I have to move the files into an encryption folder, then extract them when I want to use the file again. Adding encryption or password protection directly on the .inq files would be more efficient.

Thanks for writing in the suggestion. If this idea gets enough votes, we’ll consider it for a future update!

  19. Add Export to Word

Many of my clients prefer transcriptions in .doc or .docx format, so it would be helpful to have an export feature for that. In the meantime, I copy and paste, but a straight-up export option would be much more elegant. Also, I imagine it might keep some of the formatting, such as the color-coded time codes, no? That would be helpful, too.

Thanks for writing in the request! We will keep .doc/.docx under review for a future InqScribe update.

  20. Autofill the file name on export/save as dialog

When exporting, by default name the exported file with the same name as the Inqscribe project (or at least give the option, this saves a lot of time)... instead of always defaulting to "export.txt or .xml"

Additionally, when saving an InqScribe transcript, you should have the ability to autofill the title with the media filename.

Thanks for writing in the request. I see how renaming files each time can become tedious. We’ll place this under review for the next InqScribe update.
