Thanks for the suggestion Andrew. I see how unpinning the video window would be really useful for presentation scenarios. We will consider this for a future update of InqScribe.

Thanks for writing in the request. You can save images within InqScribe by clicking “File > Save Current Frame as JPEG…” or “File > Save Time Series as JPEGs…” However, you cannot currently save these images in a document with your transcript’s text. We will consider this export option for a future update.

As Matt pointed out, scrubbing performance will vary based on a variety of factors. We are currently revamping InqScribe’s media engine, so hopefully you can expect some general performance improvements on the next release.

Alternate background colors is a good idea and we'll consider that. Note that you already can change a transcript's font size in the "Transcript Settings."

Thanks for the detailed feedback! We love getting rich descriptions of how users use, or would like to use, InqScribe.It would be helpful to unpack a few of these requests. (Ultimately it might help to break some of these into separate features, but for now discussing whole-cloth is fine). a) employed speech recognition to match words to timecode after transcription.
How exactly would you like to see this work? I'm not clear exactly on what is getting matched to what, and the logic behind the matchings.
b) allowed editing of the timecode stamped words into new scripts
c) allowed playing such scripts from the original source material (assembly edit)How exactly would you envision this editing happening? I'm assuming the gist here is that you have a parent transcript and related child transcripts, and the child retains the link to the source. But it would help to know what sort of workflow you'd envision for generating the child transcripts, and what sort of relationship it needs to maintain to the parent.
d) provided export of assembly edit to editing software for finessing
Which editing software? Is their a particular industry format you'd like to see?
e) highlighted text that'd been used in a script so that after editing one could see what's been used and not used.
I'm assuming this relates to the parent/child transcript point above, correct? You'd want to easily see what parts of the parent transcripts are being used in related child transcripts?
Forgive my ignorance of the assembly editing process, but any details you can provide would be helpful. Indeed, this does sound like a tall task, but it's always helpful to a get deep understandings of our users' needs and workflows.

Thanks for your comment. Indeed this feature is still under review. You may have noticed that this feature almost made it into version 2.1, but we had to yank it at the last minute due to some issues with certain foot pedals (as described in this blog post: http://blogs.inquirium.net/inqscribe/2011/01/background-pedal-support-not-quite-there-yet/). These are non-trivial technical issues, and you can be assured that we're doing our best to get this feature into a future release.

Hi, thanks for your post. InqScribe already supports a wide range of keyboard & foot pedal shortcuts for video manipulation, which are documented here: http://www.inqscribe.com/docs/keyboardshortcuts.html#actions
You can assign any trigger, including USB foot pedal buttons, to any one of these shortcuts.
Jog wheels are a slightly different story, since they involve multiple positions. We are currently researching jog shuttle support for a future version.
For clarity, I'm renaming this suggestion "Add jog & shuttle support for video manipulation," since we already support both keyboard and foot pedal support for video manipulation.

We'll consider user-defined and/or automatic subtitle duration as part of our planned overall improvements to the subtitling features.
As you note, for now the easiest way to achieve this is to manually insert a time code at your desired out-point. Or, simply copy the "in" subtitle, and add two seconds. Thanks for your suggestion on how to streamline this.

Thanks for writing in the request! Discontinuous timecodes are a tricky subject, which we try to address in the following article: http://support.inqscribe.com/knowledgebase/articles/18059-does-inqscribe-support-discontinuous-timecodes
With that said, we will look into solutions for discontinuous timecodes if there’s enough support behind it.
In the meantime, you can adjust the start time of a transcript or adjust a set of specified time codes. Details in our User Guide here: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/transcriptiontips.html#adjusting

I think what you are asking for is support for discontinuous time codes. We have an article explaining this issue here: http://support.inqscribe.com/knowledgebase/articles/18059-does-inqscribe-support-discontinuous-time-codes
This is a very complicated issue. For instance, if two segments in the same video file happen to contain the same time, InqScribe would need to know how to distinguish them. We've thought a lot about this but haven't yet come up with a good solution. But we'll keep thinking on it and we're open to suggestions from the InqScribe community.

Since InqScribe does not currently support formatted text, this export option wouldn't buy you much. There's not much that an export would capture that copy and paste does not (note the blue time codes are hyperlinks, not styling).
However, once InqScribe supports styled text (see http://support.inqscribe.com/forums/4206-general-feedback-for-inqscribe/suggestions/33719-add-styled-text-support), then an export to Word is definitely worth considering. Also, once InqScribe supports background playback control (http://support.inqscribe.com/forums/4206-general-feedback-for-inqscribe/suggestions/33720-let-me-use-inqscribe-to-control-playback-in-the-ba) then exporting those hyperlinked time codes to Word also makes a lot of sense.
So exporting to Word might need to wait until the planned text styling and background video control features are in place.

We do plan to offer better support for importing a range of formats, including srt. InqScribe started out primarily as a tool for creating transcripts from scratch, so our focus has been more on supporting exports than imports. But we do recognize the need for better import support. Thanks for the suggestion.

Your second suggestion is already possible. Just create a snippet using {$TIME} and a manual space. That will insert the current time plus a space (or any other characters you'd like). More on snippets here: http://inqscribe.com/docs/snippets.html
Your first suggestion is a bit more tricky-- if I understand it correctly, you'd basically want a snippet variable that would insert time, insert a space (as above), then jump to the start of the next line. We can explore that possibility.

InqScribe does support scrubbing, but performance might vary based on the particular file format you're using, which default media engine InqScribe is using, the size of the media file, and your machine's performance.
