New version for Final Cut X?
Some of us have not jumped ship from being FCP 7 users and are loving life with Final Cut X. Is there an upgrade in the pipelines for us?

to have inqscribe to recognize tc on mp3 files
It will be nice if inqscribe could recognise ID3 TC in mp3 files embedded on the metadata. MP3 are smaller and have a fast download /upload time.
18 votesThanks for writing in the suggestion. If the idea gets enough votes, we’ll consider adding support for MP3 timecode recognition!

word-by-word timecoding with script building
as a doc filmmaker, building a script could be hugely aided by inqscribe if it:
a) employed speech recognition to match words to timecode after transcription.
b) allowed editing of the timecode stamped words into new scripts
c) allowed playing such scripts from the original source material (assembly edit)
d) provided export of assembly edit to editing software for finessing
e) highlighted text that'd been used in a script so that after editing one could see what's been used and not used.I realize this is a huge task, but for years I've thought that a timecoded word editor would…

discontinuous timecode support
Add support for discontinuous timecode, when there are multiple items on one tape that show jumps in the visible timecode.
19 votesThanks for writing in the request! Discontinuous timecodes are a tricky subject, which we try to address in the following article: http://support.inqscribe.com/knowledgebase/articles/18059-does-inqscribe-support-discontinuous-timecodes
With that said, we will look into solutions for discontinuous timecodes if there’s enough support behind it.
In the meantime, you can adjust the start time of a transcript or adjust a set of specified time codes. Details in our User Guide here: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/transcriptiontips.html#adjusting

Line by Line language replace
Add the feature that the much more expensive program Final Sub has. The ability to import a text document in a new language, and have it replace, line by line the previous language in the same timecode positions. Right now I have to copy and paste in the new language line by line. Very time consuming.

Overlapping Timecode search
Having overlapping timecodes in the transcript will trigger an error when opening the XML in Final Cut Pro. Then you have to go back and painstakingly look for the error. Have InqScribe highlight the timecode if the next timecode you add isn't at least 1 frame later.
8 votesThis is a great idea. We realize scanning every timecode can be a painstaking process. We will consider adding a “highlight overlapping timecode” feature in a future update.

Allow for <--Comments--> in the transcript
Add the ability to type in info, like the name of the current speaker, or scene numbers in a way that will be ignored when you export the XML. For example, in HTML, <--you simply bracket the comment like this-->.
16 votesGreat idea. We’ll consider a comment feature for a future update. Thanks for the suggestion!

find... box
anyway to have the "find" box stay up while interacting with the transcript?
7 votesThanks for writing in the suggestion. InqScribe does have a “find” box (select “Edit > Find”), but, you’re right, it does not stay present while interacting with the transcript. We’ll look into changing this for a future update.

add a snippets counter, so you can see how many lines a characters has.
If you translate a script with different characters, you always want to know have many lines a certain actors has for planing your studio time. so it would be great if you could add a "snippets line counter" under the "Transcript" menu, and also be able to choose the line count of different snippets.
12 votesThanks for writing in the request! I see how it would be useful for studio time management. We’ll keep this idea under review. If there’s enough support for the feature we will consider adding it in a future update.

Highlight feature in playback mode.
The highlight feature would highlight the text that matches the audio in playback mode.

"match settings" of video
add option for a new inqsribe doc to "match settings" of video that is inserted for transcribing (vs manually changing everything / kinda like dragging something into a new fcp sequence)

abilitiy to drag timecode to new location, just as you can drag/move text around
abilitiy to drag timecode to new location, just as you can drag/move text around within a paragraph, for example

add additional media playback controls to select discrete audio channels
Some media files have interleaved or multiple audio channels embedded in a single Audio Track. The specific example I'm thinking of is a Sony XDCAM Proxy file, that has 8 channels of audio embedded, but they get mixed down to stereo for playback. It would be great if we could turn each of those channels on/off in the media playback controls

"omit frames" behavior
Hi, I remember that old versions behavior was to just hide the frames from the transcript, but you could still enter the frames in the offset field for accuracy. Could there be a way to get that behavior back?

Add jog & shuttle support for video manipulation
So that I can use a jog wheel to fast forward and rewind in the same way I am able to do with Quicktime.

Add an extra export option to make it compatible with MAXQDA.
It needs rtf files with the timestamp at the end. MAXQDA recommend using F4 from audiotranskritpion.de, but I prefer inqscribe.
15 votesThanks for the suggestion. We’ll look into MAXQDA support for a future update of InqScribe.

Add password protection to .inq files
We use this program for our research with human subjects. For security sake, add a password protection on files. Right now, I have to move the files into an encryption folder, then extract them when I want to use the file again. Adding encryption or password protection directly on the .inq files would be more efficient.
15 votesThanks for writing in the suggestion. If this idea gets enough votes, we’ll consider it for a future update!

Preview Subtitled Movies
Preview Video so you can edit subtitles that may be too long without having to export and view in external player.

Update window behavior to conform to OS X Lion applications
It appears that the latest version only allows window resize from the bottom right corner. Most other apps now allow resizing from any edge or corner.

multiple tiers
Enable multiple transcription tiers relating to the same time code so that a transcription tier can be linked to a translation or annotation tier. This would make the software very attractive to those doing documentary linguistics.
2 votesThanks for the suggestion. The idea of a tiered or tabbed interface is very much on our radar. It would be a great way to organize notes, transcriptions, and translations. We will definitely consider it for a future version of InqScribe.
