  2. Save time series jpgs with transcript notes subtitles. Would be fantastic for student notes reviews

As above, export time series jpgs with transcript subtitles. It would be an incredible review technology for notes.

Thanks for the suggestion Alan. Although you can save a timecoded video as a series of JPEGs (by selecting “File > Save Time Series As JPEGs”), you cannot currently display your transcript as subtitles to these images. This is great idea, so we’ll consider adding it in a future InqScribe update.

  3. Add a way to automatically go to the beginning of the line to add the time code

I already have my text transcribed and translated in Word (I need the special characters), and it's a pain to have to manually place the cursor at the beginning of each line to insert the timecode. It would also be great to have a space after the timecode:
eg: {01:00:25.22} Ed: Speaking of horses...
Right now it's: {01:00:25.22}Ed:Speaking of horses.

  4. allow for .m2t logging

many of us are working in HDV. Is there a way to log without doing a transfer to mpeg?

  5. Implement keyboard shortcuts to export different types of files. (e.g: shortcut for TXT Export)

To export, you always have to go to the menu/submenu. It's be great to have a keyboard shortcut for every type of export to save time.

Thanks for the suggestion! We’ll consider export shortcuts for a future InqScribe release.

  6. Solve these Final Cut Pro Markers export problems

    • You can't drag and drop the generated XMLs into FCP (it gives you an "unrecognized file" error). You have to import them one by one using the "Import XML" dialog, which takes a LOT of time. Also, every imported XML gives you an error log since it can't find the associated media file.

    • It's prone to errors when encountering weird ASCII characters, with no explanation whatsoever that this is the case. I had to work with your support guys to figure this out.

    • It generates an empty sequence with the markers at sequence level. It would be great to also…

  7. Do not resize media window when importing a new video file

"It would be nice to be able to import and not change my preferred sizing.
It would save a lot of resizing every time I import a file. I tend to log a lot of footage where I am handling over 100 files at a time and have to resize every one so I can access other things on my desktop at the same time." -Adrienne

  8. Add a Google Search Function

From Danila: "Useful for looking up names and terms a transcriber is unfamiliar with."

We’ll consider the feature for a future update. Make sure to cast your votes if you’re interested in this idea.

  9. multiple tiers

Enable multiple transcription tiers relating to the same time code so that a transcription tier can be linked to a translation or annotation tier. This would make the software very attractive to those doing documentary linguistics.

Thanks for the suggestion. The idea of a tiered or tabbed interface is very much on our radar. It would be a great way to organize notes, transcriptions, and translations. We will definitely consider it for a future version of InqScribe.

  10. insert a cancel button in shortcuts/snippets window

Especially in the shortcuts window, if I modify a parameter of a shortcut, the change is immediately saved and it can't be undone. Having a Cancel button aside the Done button would be useful.

Thanks for your feedback. We’ll look into adding a “Cancel” button for a future InqScribe update.

  11. add the ability to export transparency/ opacity scale.

add the ability to export onto a translucent background. Maybe have the transparent with a transparency/ opacity scale.

    Hi Junie,

Thanks for your suggestion. InqScribe currently offers a “Transparent” background option for subtitle display (see the Save Subtitled QuickTime Movie Menu settings: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/subtitling.html#export). However, we do not currently offer a translucent/opaque background option, so we will place your suggestion under consideration for a future update of InqScribe.

    Thanks again!

  12. button to pause for n seconds, then skipback and continue playback

Simple: I'm transcribing the audio; the speaker then accelerates, so I press a customizable key and InqScribe pauses for 3 seconds (giving me the time to digit what I've lost), then automatically restart playback, only skipping back 1 second just to help me "realignining" with the next words.

Thanks for writing in your request. We’ll consider adding a shortcut that acts on a customizable timer as you described.

In the meantime, you might be interested in a Skipback Toggle combination. In this setup, you can use one shortcut key to play, pause, and skipback in your media file. Read more about this option in our User Guide: http://docs.inqscribe.com/2.2/keyboardshortcuts.html#actions

  13. Allow for "Save Current Frame as JPEG" shortcut

Allow users to assign a shortcut to the "Save Current Frame as JPEG" feature.

  14. Support using the play/pause, previous/next buttons on the Mac keyboard

Other media applications will use the built-in plause/pause and previous/next buttons that normally operate iTunes, but only when that application is in use. This would provide convenient one-key shortcuts for play/pause and skipback/forward.

Thanks for the suggestion Josh! We’re working now on some big changes to InqScribe, so we’ll keep your feedback in mind. We would like to add in media key support for Mac and PC.

  15. Make transcript change color every x seconds from previous timecode

Sometimes transcribers are requested to enter timecodes every, say, 20 seconds. InqScribe doesn't automatically insert timecodes in order to avoid situations where the timecodes gets inserted in a bad spot, like t[00:00:20.00]his.

A workaround is to have the transcript, or a part of the transcript change color to indicate the 20 second mark. Ideally, the would be a color animation (for example, gradually turning from green to yellow to red) so that you could plan your line break.

  16. Add support for find and replace regex patterns

    Per user request:
We do a lot of edits where the speaker has been misidentified. The usual format is to have the speaker ID at the start of the line followed by a colon. Right now we select the speaker with a double click and then hit a snippet key. It would be nice to be able to assign a speaker to the current line (or even multiple lines) without having to do the select. Allowing find/replace with a regex pattern, which could then to be assignable as a hotkey, would be perfect.
